Resource Spotlight: Academic Speaking and Writing in English
If you are looking to continue your work in an English-speaking context, increasing your fluency in academic English can strengthen your professional profile and lead to new opportunities, including invitations to speak at conferences, to guest lecture or teach, and to collaborate with other researchers.
The University of California, Irvine offers several interactive academic English courses on the online learning platform Coursera, including on academic discussions and presentations. Exemptions from course fees are available upon application and courses can be audited for free while applications are under review. In addition, “Write & Improve,” a free self-assessment tool developed by the University of Cambridge, offers immediate feedback on academic English writing as well as exercises to help prepare for language exams. You can learn more about this tool here.
Research Funding Spotlight: Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships
The Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship program offers funding to national and international researchers who will positively contribute to Canada’s economic, social, and research-based growth. Joint applications by researchers and host institutions in Canada can be submitted until October 1, 2020.
